Writing letters is a powerful way of being heard.

the more we write, the louder we are, the better we are heard.

You can write now

OBJECTING to npowers Batsworthy Cross wind turbine proposal and objecting to wind turbine proposals in general.

Once you have written your letter you can send the same letter to everyone

Seek your readers support and offer yours

Remember numbers count and each person in a household can send a letter.

If Mr and Mrs Surname both sign the same letter, that only counts as one letter.

However if the letter is copied, Mr Surname can sign one and Mrs Surname can sign another and that counts as two letters.

Include your name and address

Ask for your readers support and offer yours AND send letters to as many people as possible

LETTER POINTS IN A LITTLE DETAIL

WTS WILL NOT SIGNIFICANTLY ADDRESS OUR ENERGY AND CO2 PROBLEMS AND MAY EVEN BECOME A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THEM

WTs are unable to significantly address our energy and carbon emissions issues and so are a waste of our (tax payers) money. This money could instead fund development of constant green energy sources such as tidal power.

To put this claim in perspective, one 2MW turbine will save about the same amount of CO2 per hour as two heavy duty vehicles travelling at 100kph. The cost per year of this tiny saving, i.e. the subsidy paid to the wind developers, is around £200,000.

We’d need about 2,000 2MW turbines to get the same yearly energy output of that of a modern conventional power station. AND then we’d still need the power station for firm backup, to meet demand when the wind blows too much, too little or not at all.

Even the Sustainable Development Commissions highly criticised,  pro wind report “Windpower in the UK”,
states that “…it would be unrealistic to assume that wind energy would displace any nuclear capacity”

And e-on Netz, the largest operators of wind farms in the world state,

“Wind energy is only able to replace traditional power stations to a limited extent and traditional power stations with capacities equal to 90% of the installed wind power capacity must be permanently online in order to guarantee power supply at all times.

The increased use of wind power in Germany has resulted in uncontrollable fluctuations occurring on the generation side due to the random character of wind power feed-in.  This significantly increases the demands placed on the control balancing process.

With the continued expansion of the use of wind energy in Germany,
demand for standby reserve capacity will continue to rise, and will increase around fivefold by 2020.”

WTS DEVALUE OUR PROPERTY

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors survey on the affects of wind farms on house prices
reports that WTS devalue our property and that although the negative impact lessens after two years, it still continues.

WTS DAMAGE OUR ECONOMY I.E. TOURISM

They damage our economy, that is to say, our business.
The North Devon Marketing Bureau survey on the Fullabrook Down wind turbine proposal showed
a potential loss of a quarter of its tourism revenue if the proposal were allowed to go ahead.
Most of these proposals are in the countryside where tourism is a very large part of the economy.

WTS ARE GIANT AND SEVERELY IMPACT THE LANDSCAPE

2 MW wind turbines, as proposed at Batsworthy Cross, are a 100m tall, with blades of 40m long.
They are three times the size of those in Cornwall. 9 such turbines are proposed at Batsworthy Cross.
They will be visible from Dartmoor and Exmoor and along the Two Moors Way.

WTS ARE NOISY

The 27, 40m long, exposed blades revolve at up to 150mph at their tip.
27, exposed, revolving, 40m blades make a noise.
The noise is repetitive and de-habilitating and can travel across the land in an unpredictable way.

WTS ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRING

27, exposed, revolving, 40m blades create shadow flicker and light flicker.
These visually impairing strobe effects are caused by the shadows of the revolving blades and the
light reflecting off the revolving blades respectively.

WTS ARE DANGEROUS

27, exposed, revolving, 40m blades can project ice and broken blade components
over distances of hundreds of metres.

9, giant wind turbines to topple over or to catch fire.

WTS PUT OUR WATER SUPPLIES AND WATER COURSES AT RISK

The foundations, built of hundreds of tonnes of concrete and steel are never
removed and can have serious hydrological impacts, affecting watercourses.
Many of the homes and farms around this site do not have mains water.

WTS DAMAGE OUR ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT

Wind turbines kill bats and birds (see RSPB). The build will destroy the existing
flora and fauna of this site and changed watercourses can have repercussions much further a field.

WTS PUT OUR TV RECEPTION AT RISK

Wind turbines have interfered with television reception up to 20km away.
This can be remedied but has in some cases take months to do so.

THE BATSWORTHY CROSS WTS ARE IN AN AREA OF HUMAN HABITATION I.E. NEXT TO ROADS AND HOUSES

The Batsworthy Cross WTs are right next to roads, footpaths,
and riding routes (see the British Horse Society) and houses.

THE YEARS BUILD ALONE WILL DO MUCH DAMAGE TO WILDLIFE
AND TOURISM EVEN BEFORE THE TURBINES ARE IN PLACE.

The build alone of approximately one year involves serious disruption with noise, increased traffic, traffic jams, road alterations and road closures. The lorries to carry the turbine parts are 50 metres long (164ft).

NPOWERS COMMUNITY CONSULTATION HAS BEEN EXTREMELY INADEQUATE AND UNSATISFACTORY

Repeatedly, npower seem to issue misleading and nebulous information, seem unable to give definitive answers or refuse to answer at all. Further more, some of their comments and answers seem blatantly ridiculous.

Yet possibly, in as little as three weeks time, npower want to submit their planning application.

Contrary to npowers original commitment published on their website and contrary to RegenSW protocol and contrary to BWEA and DTI best practise, npower have not completed their environmental assessment prior to the community consultation process.

THERE ARE REAL WAYS TO ADDRESS OUR ENERGY AND CO2 ISSUES INSTEAD OF GESTURING AND SLAUGHTERING OUR HERITAGE IN THE PROCESS

Conservation e.g. energy saving light bulbs, insulation, diligence.

Wave, tidal, solar, PVs, geothermal, biomass, biofuel, combined heat, wood pellets etc

INSIST THAT THIS  COUNTRYS FLAWED ENERGY POLICY IS REVIEWED SO THAT IT ADEQUATELY ADDRESSES SOURCING OUR ENERGY AND REDUCING OUR CO2 EMMISSIONS WHILST KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON

“There is a serious possibility, verging on a certainty, that the ongoing industrialisation of Britain’s landscape with the latest generation of giant wind power-stations will not only fail to achieve the global environmental goals set by the government, but will also destabilise our electricity supply. In this case, the nationwide sacrifice of vulnerable ecologies and communities will be worse than meaningless”
