Wind Developer Activity in Devon ...

Below is an outline of known wind developer activity in Devon as at 31.12.05

At Fullabrook Down an application for 22 wind turbines has been opposed by both North Devon Dictrict Council and Devon County Council.  The 22 wind turbines proposed are 361 ft high and cover nearly  4 miles between Ilfracombe and Braunton. The application is waiting determination by the government as this site has a capacity of greater than 50 MW, even though the actual output is only about 12.5MW.

At Yelland, 4 miles south of Okehampton, 3 wind turbines up to about 81m high have been refused.  The developer is appealing the refusal.

At Lamerton, Tavistock, near Dartmoor, a planning application was refused in 2004 for 2  70m high turbines.  An appeal has been lodged and a decision is expected in April 2006.

Planning permission was granted at Forest Moor, Bradworthy for 3  x 75m turbines which have been constructed.

Planning permission  was granted at Darracott in May 2004 for 3  1.3MW turbines by West Coast Energy Limited.  Construction has not yet started on this site.

At Den Brook Valley, just north of Dartmoor, an application for 9 x 120m high turbines is currently under consideration by West Devon Borough Council.

At Beech Tree Farm, Goverton in south Devon, an application for 3 turbines was submitted by npower renewables in October 2004 but later withdrawn. It is understood that the developer intends to resubmit an application on this site.

At Batsworthy Cross, near Tiverton and Exmoor, 9 100m high turbines are being proposed by npower renewables. A planning application is expected in early 2006.

A map issued by a wind developer late in 2005 shows what could be a massive wind turbine proposal just north of Knowstone, near Tiverton and Exmoor.
